How We Work: Our Factory Network Model — And Why It's Better for Your Project

Let's start with honesty

If you've been researching lighting suppliers for very long, you've probably noticed something: every company says they're a "factory." Every Alibaba listing says "direct from factory." Every website shows photos of massive production lines.

And most of the time, it's not exactly true.

The reality of the Chinese lighting industry is that very few companies truly own and operate their own full-scale factories. Most work with partner factories, assembly shops, or component suppliers — and there's nothing wrong with that. The problem is when companies pretend otherwise.

At Yakeen, we decided to do things differently. We're going to tell you exactly how we work, who our partners are, and why we believe our model produces better results for your project than a single generalist factory.

Our model, in plain English

Yakeen is a team of lighting engineers, designers, and quality control specialists based in China. We don't own a giant factory with 2,000 workers. Instead, we work with five specialist manufacturing partners, each focused on a specific product category:

• Downlight specialist — exclusively recessed downlights and ceiling fixtures
• Track & spotlight factory — precision track lighting, magnetic systems, and spotlights
• Linear systems factory — LED profiles, seamless linear lighting, custom lengths

We've personally visited, audited, and tested every one of these factories. We know their owners, their engineering teams, and their quality control managers. We've seen their production lines running and we've verified their certifications.

Why this is actually better for your project

Most people assume that "owning a factory" means better quality and lower prices. In practice, it's usually the opposite. Here's why:

1. Specialist factories make better products

A factory that only makes downlights will make a better downlight than a factory trying to make downlights, track lights, panels, high bays, flood lights, and street lights all under one roof.

Specialization matters. A specialist factory invests in the right tooling, trains its workers on one type of product, optimizes its processes for that specific category, and builds up years of institutional knowledge. A generalist factory spreads itself too thin.

With our network model, you get the benefit of five specialist teams instead of one team that's okay at everything but excellent at nothing.

2. We're your quality control on the ground

Here's the dirty secret of Chinese lighting factories: quality control is usually just a final visual check and a quick power-on test. If the light turns on, it passes.

That's not good enough for architectural specification work. So we added our own 5-stage quality control process on top of what the factories already do:

1. Incoming material check — we verify LED chips, drivers, housings, and optics match your specification before production starts
2. In-process monitoring — our QC team visits the line at key stages, not just at the end
3. Pre-shipment testing — 100% electrical testing, photometric spot checks, color consistency verification
4. Aging test — 24-72 hour burn-in depending on project size to catch early-life failures
5. Final review & documentation — photo documentation of every batch, QC reports for larger projects

For projects above a certain size, we send you QC photos and reports at each stage. You know exactly what you're getting before it ships.

3. Faster, more flexible than European brands

Need a custom fixture? European premium brands typically quote 8-12 weeks for a prototype and 16-20 weeks for production. We do prototypes in 2-3 weeks and production in 3-6 weeks.

Why? Because we're small, focused, and we work directly with the factories. No layers of bureaucracy. No regional sales managers to route through. No quarterly production quotas that push your order to next quarter.

You talk directly to our engineering team. We talk directly to the factory. Decisions get made fast.

4. One point of contact for everything

What about price?

Fair question. If there's a middleman (us), doesn't that mean higher prices?

Not necessarily. Here's why:

First, we're not a traditional middleman. We don't just buy from a factory and resell to you with a markup. We add real value — engineering, quality control, certification management, customization, project support. You'd have to pay for those things anyway, whether it's through a more expensive European brand or by hiring your own team in China.

Second, because we work with specialist factories that are optimized for their product categories, their base pricing is competitive. We're not adding margin on top of inflated prices. We're adding engineering and QC on top of good factory prices.

The result: prices that are typically 40-60% lower than comparable European brands, with quality that's much closer than you'd expect. Not quite ERCO or iGuzzini level (we're honest about that), but well above standard Chinese LED factory quality.

Where we're not the right fit

We want to be upfront about this too. Our model isn't for everyone.

If you're looking for the absolute cheapest commodity LED downlights and quality is secondary to price, we're probably not the best fit. There are factories in Zhongshan that will beat our price every time. You might not get consistent quality, but you'll pay less per unit.

If you need the absolute pinnacle of quality and finish, with full BIM libraries, global specification support, and a 100-year brand reputation behind it — go with ERCO, Delta Light, or iGuzzini. They're the best for a reason.

But if you're somewhere in the middle — you want specification-grade quality, proper engineering support, and reliable delivery — without paying European brand prices or waiting six months — then we might be exactly what you're looking for.
