Lighting a five-star experience from lobby to skyline.

Perched above Dubai Marina, this 350-key luxury hotel required a lighting strategy as sophisticated as its guest demographic. The brief called for a complete lighting solution across six distinct zones — from the triple-height lobby and fine-dining restaurants to the tranquil spa, conferencing facilities, and a dramatic exterior facade that would become part of the Dubai skyline.

Working alongside the hotel's international design studio, Yakeen provided full design-assist services, bespoke product development, and end-to-end ESMA/ECAS certification. Our tunable white technology allowed guest rooms to transition seamlessly from energising morning light to warm evening ambience, while the facade lighting system delivers a dynamic yet tasteful nocturnal presence on the marina.

With 24/7 operation and ambitious energy reduction targets, every fixture was specified for reliability, efficiency, and longevity — backed by our comprehensive 5-year warranty.

"The tunable white system in guest rooms has been a revelation. Guests comment on how the lighting feels 'just right' at every hour. ESMA approval went through first time — zero delays."

— Director of Engineering, Luxury Hotel Group

Six zones. One seamless lighting system.

Hospitality lighting is a study in contrast. A space that must feel intimate at dinner must also feel energising at breakfast. A corridor that must feel safe and welcoming must also feel luxurious. The challenge lay in balancing these competing requirements across six very different functional zones, all under a single unified control system:

  • Multiple lighting zones with divergent requirements — from ultra-dimmable bedroom lighting to high-output banquet hall fixtures, all on one control platform
  • ESMA/ECAS certification — full UAE regulatory compliance required for every fixture type, interior and exterior
  • 24/7 operation — industrial-grade reliability with zero maintenance windows for public areas
  • Energy efficiency targets — 40% reduction vs. baseline, supporting the hotel's sustainability certification goals
  • Guest comfort — flicker-free dimming, colour consistency across fixtures, and zero visible glare in sleeping areas

A layered lighting strategy tailored to every zone.

We approached the project with a layered lighting philosophy — ambient, task, accent, and decorative layers working in harmony across each space. Every zone received its own carefully calibrated lighting prescription, unified by a DALI-2 control system that manages scenes, scheduling, and energy monitoring from a central interface.

Guest rooms feature our tunable white downlights, which smoothly transition from 2700K warm white in the evening to 4000K neutral white in the morning — supporting natural circadian rhythms and reducing the jetlag effect that business travellers frequently report. The system can be controlled from the bedside panel, via the guest's phone, or automatically through the hotel's PMS integration.

For the exterior facade, we specified DMX-controlled RGBW linear fixtures that create dynamic yet refined lighting scenes — from a warm amber glow in the evening to special-event colour schemes. All fixtures are IP66 rated and engineered for Dubai's extreme heat and humidity.

Four layers of light, infinite atmosphere.

Great hospitality lighting isn't about brightness — it's about layering. Every space in the hotel was designed with four overlapping lighting layers that create depth, dimension, and flexibility:

  • Ambient Layer — General illumination from recessed downlights and cove lighting, providing the base level of brightness
  • Task Layer — Focused lighting for functional areas: desks, vanities, restaurant tables, buffet stations
  • Accent Layer — Directional lighting for artwork, feature walls, architectural details, and decorative elements
  • Decorative Layer — Statement fixtures and feature lighting that contributes to the hotel's design identity

This layered approach means the same space can feel entirely different depending on the time of day and the scene selected — without changing a single fixture.
