Why SASO certification matters for Chinese suppliers.
Saudi Arabia is the largest construction market in the GCC, and SASO 2902 certification is mandatory for all LED lighting products imported into the Kingdom. Yet many Chinese lighting suppliers either don't have SASO certification, or they have certificates that don't actually cover the products they're selling. This is a problem — and it's one that costs projects time and money.
Rejected Shipments
A shipment without proper SASO documentation gets held at customs. Storage fees accrue daily. Eventually the goods are either returned to sender at the shipper's cost, or destroyed. For a project already on a tight schedule, a rejected shipment isn't just an inconvenience — it can push back the entire project timeline.
Hidden Certification Costs
Some Chinese suppliers quote a low price, then add certification fees later. Or they provide a single SASO certificate for one model and claim it covers their entire product line. By the time you discover the gap, the project is already underway and changing suppliers would cause delays.
SABER Platform Complexity
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (الهيئة السعودية للمواصفات والمقاييس والجودة — SASO) moved to the SABER electronic platform for all product conformity assessment. This means every product needs a Product Conformity Certificate (PCoC) and every shipment needs a Shipment Conformity Certificate (SCoC) — all issued electronically through the SABER system.
Energy Efficiency Requirements
SASO 2902 is the Saudi energy efficiency standard for LED lighting products. It sets minimum efficacy requirements, classifies products by efficiency grade, and requires registration in the SASO energy efficiency database. Products that don't meet the efficacy requirements can't be legally imported into the Kingdom.
What our SASO certification covers.
Our standard architectural lighting product lines are fully SASO 2902 certified and registered on the SABER platform. Each product family has its own Product Conformity Certificate (PCoC) from an accredited certification body. We don't do "blanket" certificates — every SKU is individually registered.
Downlights & Spotlights
Full range of LED downlights and spotlights — fixed and adjustable, round and square, trim and trimless. Wattages from 8W to 60W. CRI 90+ standard, 95+ and 98 available. All SASO 2902 registered with valid PCoC certificates. Efficacy meets SASO 2902 requirements.
Linear Lighting
LED linear lighting systems — recessed, surface-mounted, and suspended. Up and down light options. Continuous run systems with seamless joins. All configurations SASO certified. Custom lengths and angles available with certification transfer to custom variants.

Custom & Bespoke
Need a custom fixture for a Saudi project? We can obtain SASO certification for custom products through our accredited certification body partners. Timeline depends on complexity — typically 4-6 weeks for testing and certification of a new custom design.
How SASO certification actually works.
SASO certification isn't a one-time test and you're done. It's an ongoing process involving product registration, annual surveillance, and shipment-specific certificates. Understanding the process helps you avoid common pitfalls when sourcing from Chinese suppliers.
Product Testing
The first step is testing the product to verify it meets SASO standards. Testing is conducted by a SASO-accredited laboratory following IEC 60598 (safety) and SASO 2902 (energy efficiency) standards. The test report becomes the basis for the certification application.
PCoC Issuance
Based on the test report, a SASO-authorized certification body issues a Product Conformity Certificate (PCoC). The PCoC is registered on the SABER platform and is typically valid for one year. Each product model needs its own PCoC — one certificate doesn't cover an entire product line.
SABER Registration
The product and PCoC are registered on the SABER electronic platform. Each importer or exporter must have a SABER account to issue shipment certificates. The product registration includes all technical details: model number, wattage, efficacy, CRI, dimensions, and test report references.
SCoC for Each Shipment
For every shipment to Saudi Arabia, a Shipment Conformity Certificate (SCoC) must be issued through SABER. The SCoC confirms that the products in the shipment match the registered PCoC. We issue SCoC certificates for every Saudi-bound order before the shipment arrives at port.
Annual Surveillance
SASO conducts annual surveillance to ensure products continue to meet the standards. This may include factory audits and sample testing. PCoC certificates must be renewed annually with updated test reports if required. We handle all renewals proactively — no expired certificates on our watch.
Customs Clearance
At the port of entry — Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port Dammam, or Riyadh Dry Port — Saudi Customs verifies the SCoC against the shipment. If everything matches, the shipment is cleared. If there's a discrepancy — wrong model, expired certificate, missing SCoC — the shipment is held.
Saudi project applications we support.
Saudi Arabia is our primary focus market. We understand the project landscape, the regulatory environment, and the specific technical requirements of construction across the Kingdom — and we support specifiers, contractors, and consultants with engineering, certification, and supply-chain capability matched to each application type.
Giga-Project Hospitality & Mixed-Use
The Kingdom's Vision 2030 (رؤية السعودية 2030) developments demand specification-grade lighting at scale — hotels, serviced apartments, and mixed-use districts with international brand standards. We support these applications with DIALux design assistance, custom engineering, SASO IECEE and G-Mark certified products, and the production capacity large developments require.
Coastal Hospitality & Resorts
Coastal resorts, marinas, and waterfront promenades face some of the harshest lighting environments in the region. These applications demand corrosion-resistant housings, UV-stable finishes, and high IP ratings — all standard in our Saudi-spec exterior product lines.
Commercial, Retail & Industrial
Commercial towers, retail fit-outs, and industrial facilities across the Kingdom require certified products, reliable lead times, and smooth customs clearance. We support these applications with full SASO documentation and end-to-end delivery through Jeddah, Dammam, and Riyadh ports of entry.
Villas, Majlis & Mosques
Private villas, majlis spaces, and mosques call for warm color quality, precise glare control, and often fully custom fixtures. We support these applications with custom chandelier and architectural fixture engineering, finish matching, and sample-based approval before production.

SASO certification myths debunked.
There's a lot of misinformation floating around about SASO certification, especially among Chinese suppliers who don't specialize in the Saudi market. Here are the most common misconceptions we encounter — and the reality behind them.
"CE covers SASO"
Reality: CE marking does NOT satisfy Saudi requirements. SASO has its own standards, its own testing requirements, and its own certification process. A CE-certified product may or may not pass SASO testing — there's no automatic equivalence. You need actual SASO certification, issued through the SABER system.
"One certificate covers everything"
Reality: Each product model needs its own PCoC. A supplier who shows you one SASO certificate and claims their entire catalog is covered is either misinformed or dishonest. The certificate must match the exact model number, wattage, and specifications of the product being shipped.
"SASO is just paperwork"
Reality: SASO certification requires actual product testing by accredited laboratories. It's not a registration you fill out online. Products must meet specific safety and energy efficiency standards, and the certification body verifies this through testing and factory audits.
"Custom products can't be SASO certified"
Reality: Custom products can be SASO certified — it just takes time and testing. If you have a custom fixture for a Saudi project, we can take it through the SASO certification process. The timeline depends on complexity, but typically runs 4-8 weeks for testing and PCoC issuance.
